Inside the Dominican refectory of the church Santa Maria delle Grazie you will find the famous Da Vinci’s fresco, depicting the Last Supper. The work was painted between 1496 and 1498 on behalf of Ludovico il Moro: the scene describes the moment, when Jesus tells the Apostles, he knows that one of them is ready to betray him. Only a few years after its execution the fresco began to deteriorate, so that a long series of restorations were made during the following centuries, until 1999, when – finally – the fresco recovered its original colours thanks to the latest scientific methods. Da Vinci’s masterpiece is one of UNESCO’s cultural heritages, it needs to be preserved against the environmental pollution, therefore it can be admired by groups of 25 visitors at the time, each group for just 15 minutes
