
Will be inaugurated on October 15th at the Palazzo Reale in Milan the most important exhibition ever made in Italy dedicated to the figure of the American painter Edward Hopper (1882-1967).
With the exposure of more than 160 works will allow visitors to retrace the career of one of the greatest American artists of the last century, the greatest exponent of American Realism of the twentieth century, honored with a fitting tribute that was made possible by collaboration of the City of Milan, Foundation Rome, Artemisia, the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Hermitage Foundation in Lausanne. The cities mentioned, Rome and Lausanne, will be those that will host the traveling exhibition after Milan (where the ehhibition will be on display until 2010, January 24).
Strict chronological order for seven thematic areas (Self-Portraits, Training and early works, Hopper in Paris, The definition of the image: Hopper engraver, The development of Hopper from drawing to painting, Eroticism of Hopper, The essential concepts: time, space, memory) for an artist that knew like few others how to represent the American society, especially in the period between the two world wars, highlighting solitary figures are immersed in a rarefied atmosphere of melancholy where is shown through realistic landscapes the modern man's inability to communicate.
